Send a Holiday Card to a Soldier Overseas

The American Red Cross' holiday card-writing campaign will be on hand at the Great Mall this Saturday for people to drop off cards - or stop and fill one out from those they are providing - to be mailed to soldiers overseas.

The American Red Cross is asking for the public’s help to make the holidays a little brighter for service men and women, with a card writing campaign, from now through Dec. 9.

Over the past four years, more than 3.5 million cards have been collected, screened, sorted and distributed to United States service men and women, their families, and veterans around the world, through this annual campaign.

This year, Pitney Bowes is donating all screening services, packaging and shipping costs for the campaign, while the American Red Cross will have hundreds of volunteers to help sort and box cards for delivery. Simon Malls and Hallmark are also partners in the campaign.

Cards, addressed generally to “Dear Service Member,” will be distributed after the final postmark deadline of Dec. 9.

Stop by the Great Mall this Saturday, Nov. 12, to either drop off a card you have already filled out, or to choose a card from blank cards the Red Cross will have on hand.

The American Red Cross booth will be located near Entrance 2 - which also happens to be where Santa Claus will be making an appearance on Saturday!

Can't make it to Great Mall on Saturday? You can also drop cards off at any American Red Cross location, or you can mail cards made out to "Dear Service Member" to Holiday Mail for Heroes, P.O. Box 5456, Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456.

The campaign also welcomes donations of blank holiday cards.
