<p>At first glance, Paleo Tonic Gourmet looks like a typical Chinese medicine shop, but this unique business offers more than Chinese herbs, medicine and dried food. Paleo Tonic Gourmet specializes in Taiwanese "sitting month" treatments for the crucial month after a mother has given birth.</p> <p>This place offers classes on "sitting month" in the store –rows of red chairs line the store floor– as well as free samples from the "sitting month" menu, with different concoctions that a new mother should consume to ensure her health as well as her baby's. Some of these concoctions include Taiwanese-style chicken simmered in sesame oil and distilled rice wine. The store also offers imported bottles of distilled rice wine, which the Chinese and Taiwanese believe mothers should drink instead of bottled or distilled water.</p>
