Having been born in San Francisco, I can at least say that I’m “from” California, BUT I was raised in Montana near Glacier International Park. For those of you who have never been to THE Park or don’t know where it is let me tell you it is one of THE most beautiful national parks in the United States; some say “in the world” but then WE are partial. It looks like Switzerland, I’m told. And it’s located in the northern-most corner of western Montana right next to the Alberta, Canada Border. Yes, we DO say “Ay?” most of the time somewhere in a sentence!

I studied art education at Montana State University in Bozeman and then began traveling to all the art shows and major auctions throughout the west. It was my best education in the art business! I did my first monument, 17 feet tall, for Glacier International Airport in Kalispell Montana and very quickly was selected to create a bronze for a school in Eagle River, Alaska. Things were going great!

After many, many–too many–cold winters in Montana (50 degrees below zero sometimes) it was time to move to Hawai’i. The people were wonderful and the opportunities were endless. It was a very creative time for me. It was right where I should have stayed! But, being a Sagittarius, the travel bug hit me and now I’ve been in Milpitas for the last 20 years. And yes, I love it here. I went back to San Jose State University to get my degree in Studio Art and began new projects. Since then I’ve done several public art pieces in bronze for corporations, private collections, university collections, and have two of them right here in Milpitas; “The Flute Player” and “Cartwheels!” Both sculptures can be seen at Milpitas City Hall.

I continue to teach, have Black Dog Design Studio (for graphic design), and work in my studio here in Milpitas. You can contact me at:  fetch@blackdogdesignstudio.com or visit my graphic design site: www.blackdogdesignstudio.com or my fine art:  www.carlasfineart.com.
